ME!ME!ME! Is a short movie in the format of a music video. It's produced by Studio Khara, famous for making the Evangelion Rebuild series. It's available completely free of charge on the Animator Expo website, along with a few other short movies. Here is the link for those who would rather just watch it. http://animatorexpo.com/mememe/ Remember to change the language to English. It has gotten a lot of controversy as of late, due to its sexual themes and general "2deep4u" vibe. Is it just bait, or is there something more?
The format will be a little different for this one, as there isn't as much there for me to review, as it is roughly 5 minutes long. So, instead of categories, it will all be together. Deal with it. So, what is this thing all about anyway? Well, on the surface, it's fan-service pandering to the Nth degree. Butts and breasts literally cover the screen in multiple points throughout the video. So, why is this even worth talking about? First off, the animation is beautiful, one of if not THE best looking music video I've ever seen. The constant change in style and what is happening is fantastic. The music is done by TeddyLoid, who made the music for Panty and Stocking. It's fantastic. Although, if that's all there was to it, it wouldn't have warrented me reviewing it.
There is actually a story being told here, believe it or not. It's very subtle, you have to pay attention to get it. One of the most important details to notice is the main characters room. The Eva figures in particular. Think about what kind of person owns those kinds of figures. Huge nerds. So using that, what is he watching on the TV? I leave the rest of the blanks for you to fill out on your own. It's a really fantastic short movie, and I'm not going to spoil any more of it. It gets a 9/10, watch it on the official website listed above.
